Software Development Course
Who can take the Software Development course?
Anyone with the drive to learn to code who wants to become a developer in just six months can take our course. You can start completely from scratch and just need to be over 18 to sign up. If you’ve never coded before, or if you’ve already taken some courses but feel that you haven’t done enough to start a career in tech, Boolean is the course for you.
Can I follow the course from anywhere in the world?
The course is taught in English, and follows UK the time zone. You can apply for the course if you're in the UK or Europe, as long as you have good English skills and are able to follow along the timetable of study.
What skills do I need to have to start the course?
The course starts from scratch, so you don't need any programming skills. You just need to pass through our admissions process.
How many cohorts start per year?
At Boolean we have two cohorts per year: one in winter and one in summer. You can check out the next dates on the individual course pages or the apply page.
What is the admission process?
Boolean is an intensive course that requires constant commitment, dedication and an aptitude for problem-solving. To make sure that every student has a real chance of becoming a developer and starting a new career, we select students through a logic test and a motivational interview.
Can I take the course while I work or study?
Our course is full time and takes place every day from Monday to Friday. With lessons in the morning and exercises in the afternoon, your days will be full of learning. It’s very difficult to keep up with the pace of the course if you have any other work or study commitments alongside. Our goal is to prepare you to enter the world of work after the course - that's why we need you to be 100% involved.
What do I need to take the course?
All you need is a computer (Windows, Mac, Linux, desktop, laptop are all fine), a webcam and a good internet connection, capable of handling video calls with many participants without problems for a few hours every day. We also recommend that you have a pair of headphones with a microphone on hand, and a comfortable workstation.
What if I miss a lesson?
Try to participate every day, but if for some reason you have to miss one lesson, then you’ll be able to catch up. You’ll have the lesson recordings and teaching materials available for you to catch up. However, in order to access the career services at the end of the course, you will need to have attended a minimum of 90% of classes and completed at least 90% of the exercises.
Is this course a valid alternative to a degree?
Absolutely, if your goal is to start a career as a software developer. Coding is a very hands-on and practical discipline, so this isn’t necessarily suited to a highly theoretical degree. Companies looking for developers know that university studies don’t represent a guarantee in knowing how to code and they are open to speaking to candidates who are able to code regardless of how they learnt.
Why choose the Boolean course in six months when others are half the time?
Learning to code from scratch is tough, and the Boolean course is demanding. We believe that in order to properly train you in practical coding skills that will enable you to be successful in finding a job, the course needs to last 6 months. To cover the same amount of material in the same amount of depth in any less time than 6 months wouldn’t be possible. Shorter paths exist, but we firmly believe that there should be no shortcuts in learning and when it comes to building skills to start a new career.
